On October 24th, 1260 AD, Saint Louis – King Louis IX of France – dedicated the newly finished Cathedral of Chartres to the Christian Virgin Mary. Since the roof of Notre Dame in Paris burned, you may be wondering whether the roof of Chartres might burn too. But no – it already burned, in the 1800s. And they replaced it with a roof of iron and copper. So it won’t burn.

Chartres is my favorite cathedral so Quatr.us Study Guides has a lot of articles about it.

Who was Louis IX?
