It’s the last week of October, so it must be time to look at the history of Halloween! We take a look in this article at many different aspects of Halloween. Halloween’s a mixed holiday. It has aspects of Native American harvest festivals, but also of Central American Day of the Dead rituals, all mixed with a trick-or-treat tradition that is always attaching itself to different holidays and then being suppressed by the authorities so that it moves to a different holiday: from Purim and Saturnalia to Christmas to Thanksgiving and then (only in the 1930s!) to Halloween.
